Simply type the name of the person / item into the search box and click 'Find' Latest News Soccerbid News31st December 2008Well Xmas did not happen for us but then we had some exceptional previous years to compare with. We had a request for a John Elway item from a Big legal man in London now we had (with respect to our American clients never heard of him) however our American associates within 24 hours had sorted out a big choice of in person signed items and guess what another satisfied customer! We are finding that the legends are now more and more in demand mainly we suppose as the currant sports stars move teams so much and David Beckham Real Madrid items have just dropped in value again! We have now teamed up with a long standing insurance company that specializes and understands insurance for memorabilia, when we first starting trading our insurance company did not understand what memorabilia was and said “oh is it like paintings and jewellery?!” that’s fine till you need to make a claim, so make your new years resolution one to insure your prized collection with a company that understands what memorabilia is! Hopefully we can introduce you to our associates. As we are about to have a glass of bubbly it is everyone at soccerbid wishing you a happy no lets be sensible in these times as happy as possible with us all holding on to our jobs and most of all our loved ones for the next 12 months safely. Any spare money would be nice to see here at soccerbid buying from the best no lets re phrase that from the nicest hopefully the most professional but certainly the most caring memorabilia company in the world. Every one of our competitors says their the best memorabilia company in the world there are hundreds of them! We believe in our customers telling us and for the amount of you that come back time and time again we must be doing something right.Written 10/12/08Well its hard out there soccerbid has arrived at the dreaded recession, Xmas sales are down on all previous years however we are still selling to our loyal customers. Last week we had lots of calls from people who wanted non sports memorabilia although its not our regular stock we know all the genuine dealers in music, TV, Hollywood etc as we have existing relationships with all on sport so its better to go to someone you trust than try and build a relationship with someone you do not know. Romford was brisk business for Frank Bruno, St Albans with the West Ham boys was okay. We are now looking forward to the theatre shows with Clyde Best, and other football legends in January. Tickets will make an excellent present for your loved one. We are visiting Southend, Dartford, Bedford, Crewe, Chelmsford, and Stevenage. What are the investment items to buy for this Xmas? We recommend Lewis Hamilton again, Henry Cooper, and of course Bobby Moore! But as we always say buy an item because you like it and if it proves to be an investment especially in this day and age that’s a bonus. Getting back to the non sports items we have discovered cunning men who now are having wives saying no more sports items then the old man buys a piece of music or TV memorabilia that the wife likes then uses that as an excuse for another sports item! We do not know when we will put pen to paper or keyboard to screen so on behalf of all of us at soccerbid thanks for your consideration and sales this year. We really do appreciate it. It goes without saying that we will be very much here next year something a lot of our competitors are telling us that maybe they will have to fold or get a real job in the new year. We ask you all what ever your circumstances or situation to have the best time you can over the festive period but try and remember others and consider their happiness. Written early November23rd November soccerbid will be having a mobile shop and signing with Frank Bruno in “The Liberty” Romford 11-4pmThis last month we have had more calls from people wishing to sell items than buy and we are thinking of setting up an advice line. If you wish to sell an item please bear in mind when you contact us or any other dealer you are on the back foot- there is nothing that we are desperate to get our hands on. The price you will be offered will be a trade less forced sale price. The currant climate is not a good time to sell unless you just want to get rid of the item and are prepared to accept the offer you are given. Soccerbid was delighted to once again to be featured in The Sun talking about the amount of fakes on the market and that big reseller of fake memorabilia. We were also featured in the Mail on Sunday and lots of smaller local papers. We were involved with the Autograph show in Coventry a few weeks ago, we did not have a stand there just supplied some of the faces there, also some of the dealers who buy off us were there. It was very quiet and why do you need to go out on a cold weekend when you can look on the site from the warmth of your sitting room! Xmas has started but we are expecting a quiet one this year. We are “back on the road” in January visiting Bedford, Stevenage, Crewe, Southend, Dartford and Barking. The West Ham legend Clyde Best will be coming over for a theatre tour. Soccerbid will have a shop in attendance for each of these shows. Come and say hello! A new American president well if we dealt in political memorabilia we would buy a signed item of Obama in fact we are able to get a few signed items from our associate in the US so if you are interested please let us know. Written October What is happening in the world? Now memorabilia is a good investment if you buy wisely. We have been busier than ever no we are not being flash or clever just because we are busy it does not mean we are earning lots of money! With 3 West Ham related shows under out belt we have one more to go in St Albans, it is wonderful to see a lot of our customers and can we say hello to George Grainger from Erith in Kent he has been buying off us for 9 years every other month or so and we gave him VIP tickets at Dartford where he met his hero Billy Bonds. We have eventually got rid of our oldest piece of memorabilia the Oil painting of David Beckham its been with us for years. The Gazza worn shirt has also gone. We have lots of customers phoning us to say they love the site but have no spending money at the moment well keep looking and soon you can advise the family what soccerbid items you want for xmas! The 1966 team sheets are now virtually gone with the sad passing of Alan Ball hundreds have gone in the last few months. In football Alan Curbishley, Kevin Keegan what’s going on? The Curbishley items have dropped in price! For the West Ham fans will Curbishley be regarded as a memorable manager? Only time will tell. Keegan--- well his playing days to us at soccerbid towers outshine his managerial career. Its amazing there are not many managers who outshine as a player then become a wonderful manager some of course are better known as a manager than a player Harry Redknapp, Bobby Robson then of course Jack Charlton? Well he went to the top of his profession as a player winning the world cup and made a pretty good manager, but we digress. In the memorabilia world it’s strange we still are selling items daily however the enquires are definitely down and everybody in the world wants to sell us their memorabilia. Last month our company was offered 600 items 120 of them were fake, if you are thinking of buying a Bobby Moore autograph make sure it was one he signed before he died when it is dated 1996 it gives the game away! Our valuation department is as busy as ever but remember the item is worth what someone is prepared to pay not any more! At the moment like houses it’s a buyers market! We are sensible and realise this therefore are discounting lots of items why not consider Xmas presents now!! We are delighted that Bid up TV are dealing with us again lots of water under the bridge but it would be fair to say that we were approached we did not do the chasing for the business. If you are into investment we have just done a signing with a non sports individual that we feel confident will go up in value in fact we are keeping a 100 pieces for ourselves. If you have a minimum of £500 to spend and accept you will need to wait at least 3-4 years please drop dave@football1966.com a line for more info.Written August 2008Well the new season is now here and our company predictions for teams is much the same as every one else’s we think the dark horse who will be biting at the top 4 will be Portsmouth. West Ham? We do not know what to think! The next Forever Blowing Bubbles shows are now booked so Croydon October 6th, Dartford October 9th, St Albans 13th November we look forward to seeing you all then. We recently went to the Ricky Hatton /Frank Bruno show very entertaining look out for one near you coming in January.Credit Crunch/ recession? Not us our customers tell us it’s because they like dealing with us and we tell people honestly about autographs and prices. Our prices reflect the fact there is not as much spare money about and we would rather sell 100 items with 5% mark up than 1 at 300% why because then 100 people tell their friends and one person will eventually realise they have possible paid a little too much and they will tell their friends. There’s really exciting plans with a new looking site due in the next 6 months. The Euro’s produced a flurry of sales from Europe and we are delighted to tell you from an order on a Monday we were able to get to framers then packed and on a over night courier and safely in the clients hand in Switzerland and Austria a day later a little hair raising but we did it!It was a shame to see “Famously Yours” the memorabilia shops up and down the country go into administration they were buying a bit of stock from us and we can all make excuses about why it happened however when we questioned their staff about stock and famous sports stars they had not got a clue now would you spend your hard earned money with someone who does not know about what their selling? Perhaps lessons for all aspiring memorabilia dealers and customers deal with someone who knows their business David our boss sleeps eats and dreams memorabilia his wife says he should have married a sharpie pen!! F1 items are flying out the door at present in fact we cannot even get them on the site they come back from framers and are sold much to our programmers annoyance. The new football season is just around the corner so to remind you.We are already looking for new ideas and new products. We have now introduced a number of story boards. These are unsigned images and we started off with West Ham being the companies favourite team and Bobby Moore who of course for all supporters of football certainly an iconic legend of the game. We also have one of Spurs concentrating on their trophy win this year and also formula one. These will be cheaper to signed memorabilia not necessarily a route that we want to go; however for the fixed amount of money people have in their pocket maybe this is worth considering the framing, the Perspex, the mount all cost the same if the item is framed or not. It’s obviously the picture inside that is a lot cheaper. We are delighted at long last to have our partnership with a leading auction house in the UK so if you want to sell your item contact us and we will put you in touch providing we are not interested of course and this covers anything in memorabilia. We were delighted to meet a number of you in the 2 Essex events recently and we are looking at some more for the autumn. Dust has started to settle after the Chester court case, and we are waiting for results of the court papers that list all the people that Sporting Icons supplied allegedly. You would be surprised at how many people have bought fake memorabilia, how must they be feeling at the moment?Following a report in the Daily Mail about fake items on Ebay when will people learn we have been banging the drum for 3 years now buy from someone who can be trusted here is our guide lines again for any buyer of memorabilia? We are constantly asked about authenticity particularly concerning a certain international Web site. If you have read our introduction on our home page you will see as part of a very busy football agency (we are constantly working with sportsman on a commercial basis almost on a weekly basis). Our memorabilia company stemmed from the football/sports agency. It was amusing at the Ideal home exhibition we were offering Geoff Hurst signed items and Geoff was on the stand and still people asked, “Is it really signed by Geoff Hurst?” We along side 50ish other companies now have a network of direct contacts with major sportspersons around the world. With our own clients we supply other memorabilia companies. With current footballers we deal with them directly. If you want a Muhammad Ali we deal directly with Ali’s manager appointed distributor, if you want a Tiger Woods we deal through an American associate whom Tiger has a well-documented commercial arrangement with and so it goes on. The certificate of authenticity is important but if you had a printer and a fancy design programme you could print them. Our certificate of authenticity has our office address, our company registration number, our accountant’s address, and our VAT number. (The only thing we do not give is our warehouse address for security reasons) How many other companies even have an accountant specifically for their memorabilia business? How many have a Vat number, how many have been in business over 10 years? (This is our 28th year in business) If you are concerned about another memorabilia supplier ask them for their Vat number, their registration number etc etc. Just compare memorabilia to a pension fund both are accepted as investments. Would you trust putting money into a brand new company with no track record no experience running from the front room of a housing estate? Having 100’s of satisfied customers selling kettles that gives you a wonderful sellers rating does not make you a doctor. Please Please put your trust and buy from a proper memorabilia company hopefully us! We are not the only reputable memorabilia company in the World but certainly one of a very small group. Guess what we are the friendliest. It’s been an interesting month. It would be fair to say that we have been quieter than we expected. While all our competition is claiming to be earning millions and millions we would rather be honest with our readers. It seems eventually we are starting to feel that the recession that everyone is talking about when we look back on previous notes and seen how we have been busy and everyone else have been moaning it seems a little bit of a turnaround. We are not completely dead however the level per spend for each sale is certainly down from previous months; however a strong Welsh contingent in the company means that we are absolutely delighted with the Rugby. Valuations are still busy as ever with a record week last week 1947. The guys were desperate to get to 2000 valuations; however with 16 hours a day was about all they could manage and by the end of the week they were sick of valuing people’s properties and didn’t want to take another valuation. It would be fair to say where they were promised a night out with a couple of glasses of lemonade and a shandy they opted for an early night and one of our valuers said he was even dreaming of valuations in his sleep. The fashion seems to be changing in the memorabilia side with more and more people buying Un autographed images. The latest fashion seems to be 4 or 5 photographs round a subject with an engraved plate. The price under £75. We will do some experiments with these and see if this is a passing fad or indeed if this is something our customers would be interested in. Its amazing since the Tottenham and Carling cup win the interest in Tottenham memorabilia seems to of increased and now with the major clubs out of the FA cup will be an interesting year and probably good for memorabilia having some different teams in the final. We have experimented with a couple of the items on the site and put in quite a lot of new details about the actual subject featured in the item of memorabilia. The first one we have gone over the top with is a Tommy Docherty item and your comments would be appreciated whether you want information on the item you are buying or information all about the subject featured in the picture. We are just looking for new ways to keep you fixed on our site. Please see this month the new do it your self assembly shirt frame. In these quieter times we thank you for your consideration and thank you for looking at our site and we are still trying to bring you new items every month for you to spend your hard earned money on. The Sun newspaper did half a page on our company and from that resulted hundreds of valuations and interest in our company. We are absolutely delighted with the interest that soccer bid is now generating; so much so our boss is wondering whether the service people have come to know and expect from soccer bid can be sustained. (Editors comments Yea 12 hour days are becoming exhausting!!!) The Observer magazine did a page featuring out items last weekend. People say just get some new staff however it’s the management and the administration that we are struggling with particularly where people know and trust us and have come to expect good service. However that’s a lovely problem for us to have and once again we can’t thank you enough in being generous in your consideration of using soccerbid.Busby babe’s memorabilia is now a long time high. We are not going the hype the price up just because it’s the anniversary we have continued to sell Busby babes over the last few years and this month you will see a photograph signed by Dennis Violet obviously we have a number of items signed by Bobby Charlton. It was with regret people (laugh at this) the passing of Jeremy Beadle. Jeremy Beadle forgetting his television exposure as a presenter was a great fund raiser and loved memorabilia. Quite a number of times he bought our memorabilia usually through third parties at various dinners at auctions we supplied across the country. You will notice that we have an influx of boxing gloves while boxing seems to of comes to the fore and Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe signed gloves along with good old Frank seen to be as popular as ever. The new look England team is interesting we are all waiting to see if David Beckham would make his 100th cap. It’s generally a feeling that he will at some point get this cap but who knows. Our competitors have criticized us for selling quite a number of magazine signed pictures. The reason we include this as part of our regular stock is that over the years particularly in the 60s, 70s, 80s and early 90s before memorabilia in this country really took off the only thing to get signed by your hero was either a shirt of a picture from a magazine. A lot of those collections have been passed on even our boss has a collection of around 2000 pictures signed by various legends particularly from football over the years. In a nice way of introducing memorabilia to particularly young audience is for them to have a signed picture of a legend from their favourite team without necessarily breaking the bank. Once you put one of these pictures into a mount and a frame there you have signed on your wall something framed very often for around £25 to £30 this is now in reach of the kid’s pocket money and perfect for the present for the youngsters and also it then gets them into memorabilia. You will find a lot of the signatures were far better signatures than those obtained from celebrities now days. We will in the period of the next few weeks make up some montages collating a number of these magazine signed images together and to get a montage signed by a number of legends of a team less than £250 is a real bargain. It’s the frame that actually costs the money. We have been asked numerous times to set up a “Soccerbid Club” we need a thousand of you who love memorabilia who want to continue buying memorabilia and like to meet celebs from the Sports World who want to opt in to our scheme we are putting together a benefits package at present it won’t cost anything to join we will need your email address, plus name and address and phone numbers. Even if you have not bought anything from us you can still join. So at these early stages if you fancy this please send us an email to sales@soccerbid.co.uk in the subject heading put “Soccerbid club” You will notice we were selling 2 Brazil shirts from the World Cup in 1970. How do we get these I hear you ask and are we happy with the authenticity?Memorabilia like any antique or classic car has a set time frame with an owner. Sometimes people need to realise some funds, other times they are fed up with paying the insurance, sometimes the wife wants that item out the way “its collecting dust” is something we often hear. If it’s been a players or in a players family they just want to get rid of all the “stuff” he collected over the years! When players move on to the great football Stadium in the sky some families just want to get rid of everything. We as a company have a network across the world of contacts it has taken us nearly 30 years to build up this net work. Re the authenticity we turn down more offers of items than we take then we notice other people selling them and making a lot of money! We are trusted by our customers we do not need the extra few pounds just to sell an item and this is paying us back a hundred fold. Why do the media love us? If you go over the top trying to be squeaky clean they will embrace us waiting for us to fall! We already have had a few suspect calls and offers of making thousands out of suspect signatures we would not even let the person come and see us! We know who you and your firm are!!!We hope you had an enjoyable Xmas and let us wish you a happy new year. When we look back at the previous year Soccerbid has grown from Strength to Strength. Over a million people visit the site every month we have the stats to prove it please all spend £1 each every month and we would be very happy. We have now been approved and accepted as a UACC registered dealer (number RD294) The UACC is the largest autograph organization in the world today with approximately 2,000 members in over 25 countries. There seems to be only a few hundred registered dealers for which we are now one.The UACC has a Code of Ethics that all members are required to abide by, as well as an aggressive Ethics Board to mediate disputes and uphold standards. Why you may ask do we need to become associated with the UACC when as an agent for a lot of our clients whose autographs we sell there is no question what so ever re authenticity? We felt that especially as our company is now supplying autographs across the world being the agent for e.g. English Sporting legends does not add up too much when you are looking to buy in e.g. Canada. Being a registered dealer of the UACC is another weapon to show our company has passed the vigorous vetting procedure it has taken a few years to be accepted and to gain full dealer membership it not a case of just paying a few pounds and your in. If it means we get sales from people through being one of a few hundred recognised dealers in the World that’s good enough for us.The New Zealand Herald did a nice piece on us just before Xmas so hello to all our new friends from that wonderful part of the world. As the old year says good bye we are delighted that 2007 we provided stock and staff to help raise £987,348.00 we are the quiet ones who do the work in the background and lots of others take the credit for raising the money. Fact our company supplies more personnel and memorabilia for fund raising than anyone else in the UK. We had a wonderful endorsement from The Times in October. BBC breakfast news used our master of wines (The one who does the tasting notes on the 1966 champagne) BBC Essex used us to talk about memorabilia and give some free valuations. The Student Times gave us a front page endorsement concerning our fund raising and helping the charities. Choice magazine which is principally for the over 50’s has done a feature on us. The Sun is running a piece about our tips for the New Year memorabilia wise. Reuter’s news agency ran a piece about memorabilia and quoting us as a source. That’s the ones we know about! It seems we are liked by the media. Hopefully all that will ensure the till rings even more! The giveaways have proved to be popular. The free post option works fine however some people still think we should send a £10 item recorded delivery and not charge postage! Our plans for the New Year you will have to wait and see. We have a number of signed magazine pictures there is an argument the quality of the image is never as good as a photo however price wise its almost half price and our business sadly is becoming price driven. We still will be supplying signed photos however we do listen to our client and parents who want images for kids or managers who want signed images for their football team’s fund raising under £50 this is for you. Montages seem to be coming back again. The New England manager lets see what he can bring to the countries team.Mr Steve McClaren does not appreciate what he has done to our business. Let alone those 13 so called footballers, it shows that that team of 1966 were still the best England have produced. This summer we all will be looking at each other. Any one interested in the Olympics! This is why we love sport it’s so unpredictable lets move on to more positive news. Our clients tell us that some of them are addicted to our site looking every day for gossip and different items and looking for price drops so this big HELLO is to Darren Seswin from Nottingham. Let’s see how long it takes you to recognise your name in lights.Once again the legal industry is using soccerbid for a benchmark in what will be a high profile case and our company is being used in an expert witness situation we cannot tell you any more sorry! We are being asked for suggestions for investments for memorabilia on a regular basis. We will not lie to you and tell everything is an investment but we have a set amount of clients that buy usually once every 6 months and we try to sell them something that they will enjoy that might go up in value in due course we call them our diamond club clients we have recently lost one to the dreaded cancer so if you want to commit to this special club of selected members please email us. In all cases remember you should only buy because you want it you can afford it and the fact that it may go up in value is a bonus. We were delighted to help “Children in need” and be part of their fund raising of 19 million pounds our part helped raise £645.000. Thanks to all of you who supported this wonderful appeal.Back to normal memorabilia things. The offers we have been doing are proving to be popular. We can here the cynics’ going “they must be quiet or desperate”Wrong on both counts so many people in previous years customers have said they started looking at our site in November then actually buy in December. We are undergoing extensive building work at head office now just to expand for you wonderful customers. Tony is back and his heart is playing up every week with West Hams ups and downs. We have been asked to supply a number of shops so soon soccerbid will be in a shop near you however it is cheaper on the net! But then they have high street rents to pay. The first of the high profile fake signature trials has taken places with 2 of our associates being asked as expert witnesses so we will report when the man gets sentenced! We understand Wayne Rooney is not signing at present we have a little stock from him signed a while ago. If he does not sign it will increase in value but then all the fakers come out so be careful! Trust soccerbid!A glowing feature in the Reading football programme for a couple of weeks ago kept us smug for a couple of days. We have made some changes to the site. Our New stock page has been changed. People complained that the retail range we showed was not changing quickly enough. We have now added a section where we will add new items on at least a weekly basis this will be above the retail section. A point we should have made years a go on the new stock some of the prices on there are a little dearer than perhaps the same item in the body of the site. These are retail prices (shop prices) look in the body of the site you may see the same item cheaper there maybe unframed but still at a saving. With our premiership advertising now paying dividends, we are now under pressure to keep all the enquiries serviced at the moment but we are not moaning business is good and the half page feature in the Mail on Sunday a few months ago certainly didn’t do any harm. We have some amazing pieces of memorabilia that we are gradually adding to the site. A picture signed by Russian legendary goal keeper Leo Yashmin and Pele. Items signed by John Charles. German trading cards signed by the 1966 team. An autograph book with pages and pictures from the 1964 West Ham FA Cup winners, a letter from Gordon Banks talking of his injury which finished his career. We are adding new items a week minimum at present so keep looking at the site. We are quite often asked the question if we are such a big memorabilia company why do we not have online buying. The answer is simple we did experiment with this in the early days with Soccerbid but its amazing how many criminals manage to use stolen credit cards to buy all sorts of gifts and memorabilia using these cards. Our sales team likes to talk to these customers we build up a bit of a relationship and in that way we protect the security of our items. With our valuations hitting a record last week of 1273 we have decided now that possibly we may offer a telephone service where people can just ring up and get a valuation for their item as opposed to getting it written. To pay for our assessor’s time this will have to be some kind of premium number but we are currently looking into this. The death of Ian Porterfield was a shock although he had been ill for quite a while but we have automatically removed a few bits of stock by him for respect for his family and it seems that this year legends are dropping like flies.Jose Mourinho's sudden departure from Chelsea we feel was on the cards anyway and it would be interesting now to see Chelsea as a team react to a new manager. We have a few pieces of Jose Mourinho items left and we’re sure these will go very quickly. We you by now hopefully will have seen our board behind the goals at Reading and Bolton bright Orange on Black it stands out and we love watching the football from these grounds to see our ads! We are the first Memorabilia Company in the world to be allowed to advertise at Premiership grounds so another 1st for us. Well done to Jimmy Filkwell who spotted our ad at the Chelsea V Reading game a signed England shirt has winged its way to him. We have introduced a policy for giving away some stock when you spend so much money with us the Forza game was very popular and it worked so keep an eye on the front page! Its first come first served. We have sold the last of the cheaper Jules Rimet trophies they have been a constant favourite but we decided with those and the currant world cup that we would go up market and have a hallmarked version its more expensive but certainly better quality.Congratulations to Steve Piftal from Burnley on the Thursday we found we had 4 tickets left for the community shield at Wembley so we said the next person who phones and buys anything will get them he phoned spent £7.50 and got 4 tickets to see the game at Wembley he thought it was a wind up until Sir Geoff Hurst met him and gave them to him was he bowled over or what and his 8 year old son has declared he now is supporting West Ham and not Burnley same colours so not a bad choice!
