Nantucket Lightship Baskets of All Shapes and Sizes
Nantucket Lightship Baskets are distinctive handmade baskets originating over 150 years ago. They were first created by the crewmen of lightship vessels, as a way to pass the time at sea. The Nantucket Basket's labor-intensive construction is characterized by several distinctive features. They are hand woven using rattan or cane onto wooden molds with wooden bases. The Nantucket handbags are decorated with carved or scrimshawed pieces.

The classic Nantucket Basket Purse. A real treasure to own. This is a large purse made with a cherry top and base and woven with cane staves and weaver. A choice of scrimshaw top decoration is included as well as a name engraved quarterboard.

Opera Bag
The opera bag is the perfect evening tote. The bag measures 6X4X6 inches. It comes in your choice of cherry or ebony. The cherry opera bag will have a cherry rim. They are both fashined in the traditional cane and reed construction. There are two ,12 inch, smooth leather handles attached with bone knobs and washers. You may also have an ivory quarterboard attached to the side of the bag, engraved with your initials. There are many fabric liners that may be ordered to match.

Trinket Box
The Nantucket Trinket Box is the perfect little box for storing your keepsakes and collectibles. The unique specialty basket is 4 ½” round and stands 3” high. The Trinket Box is made with cane and reed construction and topped with a turned wooden lid made of cherry wood. In the inside bottom of the trinket box, you may choose to have a whale or scallop shell carving.

This basket is a tall , oval tote to hold all of your belongings. It is constructed with the traditional cane and reed. It stands 13 inches tall. This basket may be purchased with either a leather shoulder strap of leather side handles. The front may be adorned with an ivory quarterboard engraved with your name or initials.. We also carry fabric liners that will fit the inside of your tote.
