A beautifully decorative large scale map of Anatolia and Asia Minor including Turkey, Rhodes, and Cyprus by Jansson, one of the foremost Dutch cartographic dynasties of the 17th century. As on most Jansson maps, there is enormous detail clearly and accurately described so that those familiar with the “Turquoise” coast can easily find the historically significant cities of Galipoli, Troy, Smyrna, Izmir, Marmaris, Perge, Assos, Myrna, etc. as well as the nearby Aegean Islands. Sailing ships and sea monsters ply the seas and turbaned figures adorn the title. Latin text on reverse. 
This unusually large and fabulously detailed rendering of the Battle off of Cape St. Vincent was skillfully engraved by John and Josiah Boydell in London in 1798. The print commemorates the amazing and daring victory of the British under Admiral Sir John Jervis’ over a much larger Spanish fleet under Don Jose de Cordova. The engagement took place off of the cost of Portugal. The scene is filled with ships, including the British Namur, Victory, Diadem, and the aptly named, Excellent. Sails are tattered, smoke billows and crews raise their swords on the decks. Jervis used his 9 ships to divide the 35 ship Spanish fleet and assure success. Recent Acquisitions
