Genuine
in-house, hand-cut, hand-made leatherwork is not a lost art.
With distinct design and fine
craftsmanship, Dark Star Leather has been known for art with function
since 1972. Toyo Gilman (Dark Star Leather owner) and his staff of artisans create unique
one-of-a-kind handbags, belts, wallets, briefcases, and other
accessories.
From contemporary to traditional Southwestern
styling and given the variety of material to work with, the design combinations are endless. All of the hand-cut design work is fashioned from latigo,
an oil-tanned cowhide. Other leathers range
from soft garment types to classic glazed water buffalo calf to
exotic skins such as python, alligator, ostrich, and many others
in a variety of textures and colors.
The latigo designs are inlaid primarily
with exotic ranch raised skins of snake,
lizard, ostrich, alligator, and a variety of suede and other
leathers for maximum
textural appeal. The
focus is on attention to detail... intricate stitching, finely
bound
edges, carefully set semi-precious stones and sterling silver conchos
make each creation one-of-a-kind.
